Creative Photography Workshop; Shoot, Paint, Print

Creative Photography Workshop; Shoot, Paint, Print

A few weeks ago Xavier and Patrice held a creative photography workshop, ‘Shoot, Paint, Print.’  It was the first time this husband and wife team taught a workshop together, and it turned out to be such a fun and successful event. This creative photography workshop taught creative lighting in the studio and then attendees were able to learn new photoshop painting skills to turn their photographs into a work of art.

The workshop started at 3:00 p.m. and the studio was designed for an in studio photography session geared for a head and shoulder portrait session. The model Avery was asked to wear a loose fitting top that could be arranged to show off her shoulders. Avery also had long, beautiful hair which was essential for pulling and pinning so that Xavier and Patrice could photograph her in such a way that would allow a unique painting to be created later in the second half of this workshop for photoshop painting.  Here are a few behind the scene images from the photo shoot.

These are 2 of Xavier’s images from the photo shoot that were not created to be painted. The first image was on the first “softer” background, and the second is from the more dramatic background later lit with LED lights. Its always important to photograph some normal head and shoulder portraits for your client before your doing any of your creative work. Its the balance. We do that for our model, and for our client.  We hope she will like the final painting we create, but its part of our job to give her a good head shot at the same time.

After the 2 hour photo shoot, otherwise known as a really fun creative photography class, the class broke for an hour break. The attendees walked to the Dixie House Cafe for dinner while Xavier and Patrice set up for the PhotoShop part of the workshop. The PhotoShop segment was not to instruct so much about photoshop, but to focus on painting in PhotoShop. Patrice went over brushes and techniques used for painting in PhotoShop. Everyone was able to create their own  piece of art using their own images from the photo shoot earlier that day.  Patrice created one painting during the class. You can see how the hair was pinned up from some of the behind the scene photos. This was done to create the wild, painterly effect they were trying to achieve in order to paint in photoshop.

Of course after the workshop, Patrice still continues to create more art from this amazing session, in her spare time…
